| Richard Peterson
Lighting & Portraiture
Richard Peterson's eclectic and stylish photography
has been widely published and exhibited. Creative use
of light is a key element in his work, whether it is
for fashion, portraits, editorial, weddings, or his
1970s documentation of bands like the Sex Pistols and
Talking Heads. Dozens of articles have appeared about
his work, including a feature in Photo District News.
With penchants for the off-beat and Surrealism, Peterson
likes to embellish even his commercial work with the
emotional passion and creativity (at least when art
directors allow it). After decades of research and experimentation,
he has mastered the use of light to evoke moods, mix
it in unique ways and refine it to reveal qualities.
Peterson works with ambient, natural and studio lights,
likes to improvise with any available elements, and
uses psychology to make his subjects comfortable enough
to reveal themselves.
As a former alternative gallery owner, he is well connected
to the world of avant-garde artists. His own art is
currently digital, and he is a master of photo software.
